Marina sunset

Last night I decided to catch the sunset at a local marina. The problem was that I waited until about 6:45 to leave my house. Not smart since the sun sets around 7:13. However I was sure I'd catch the last brilliant rays as it sank into the distance. I could see from the road, a burning orange color, blazing across the water. Only a couple more minutes and I'll be there . . .

Apparently there were clouds on the horizon because I missed it. I was kicking myself for not leaving the house 5 minutes earlier! Live and learn.

It was a calm, soothing evening. Pink was the dominant color. The ducks weren't complaining a bit. People were tying up their boats in anticipation of hurricane Earl. So far we have nothing but a LOT of humidity and some drizzle. Who knows what tonight will bring.

Tomorrow my niece and her fiance are getting married ... in my parents backyard. Everyone is hoping for good weather, without all the humidity. So far the forecast is for a beautiful Saturday. Over 150 people are expected to attend and there's no way they can fit in my parents house, even if it is good sized. In the morning I'll be making bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids. All she wants are simple blue and white Hydrangeas bouquets, which shouldn't be to difficult.

I'm not sure how much I'll be blogging in the coming week or so. Carpal Tunnel seems to be getting the best of me. My wrist/arm is constantly in a splint but it's not helping all that much. Maybe because I still text with my family, tweet, Facebook, and surf the web. Old habits die hard. I'm becoming pretty skilled with my left hand! Anyone have some helpful tips? I thought using the Bamboo pen tablet might relieve some of the pain, but it hasn't.

This was the very last shot I took as I was leaving the marina. It was warm, humid, and sultry. Kind of like a southern evening.
That sun sure does know how to work it's magic.

Willey Pond/House

A few more pictures from our trip up north.

Willey Pond/House is located along Route 302 in Crawford Notch, NH. I’m showing you pictures but quite honestly they can’t do this historic site justice. It’s truly someplace you need to visit to understand just how gorgeous it is. The pond is crystal clear with mountains all around. It’s almost like being in the middle of a bowl.

Both girls were amazed with the clarity of the pond, and all those little feet paddling were too darned cute!

Scrambling for food because goodness knows they aren’t fed enough …

By the time we left the pond, the vehicle, and all pockets as well as bags, had been scoured for quarters! Once we got home I had to replenish my stash.

She's a good mama duck. Proud too!

Off to the right are the ledges of Mt. Webster, which if you read the sign up in the first photo you know they rise about 2500 ft. above the valley floor.
In case you're wondering, my daughter wore that same plaid shirt almost the whole time we were on vacation. She's like that.

More Mt. Webster

Across the street from the pond sits the Willey House

You can read more about the tragic history of the Willey House here. Once the page loads just scroll to the bottom.

I wished we could have stayed a lot longer but there were more things we wanted to do and see.

See the notch between those two mountains up ahead? That’s where we’re going next! North!

More Roses on the River

Phew! Where did the time go? I had planned on posting this just a day or two after the original Roses on the River, but that didn't happen. I'm so in awe by those of you who post daily, and work. I don't know how you do it.

A slightly different focus from the photo in my last post. In this shot you can see the old mills a little better. For the most part they've been turned into condos, but there is still a couple business' located inside one of them.

Since it was early in the morning, plenty of birds were hanging about. Herons are always a favorite of mine.

Now these guys, I don't know where they came from. I do believe they're domestic Geese so where they go in the winter I have no idea but they weren't to afraid of people.

For the most part they just stood there and looked at me while I kept shooting.

Within a minute or two it was back to standing on one leg, tucking their heads under their wings, and taking a nap. Life on the river in the morning seems pretty relaxing.

What are your plans for Memorial Day?
My younger daughter and I will be heading out to New Castle to hang out with friends. It's supposed to be a great day here in New Hampshire and we're going to enjoy it!

Roses on the river

This past week-end I woke up one morning to a wonderful fog. I can't remember if it was Saturday or Sunday ... they all blend together lately.

Anyway, it was a great morning for photography.

The wild roses smell sweet and pungent at the same time. A welcome flower that will last well into the early fall.

A little morning mist lay all around

Can you think of a better way to spend a peaceful, warm morning? It was early so there were only a couple other people in the area. Plenty of Herons, ducks, Gulls, and Cormorants to be found though!

In my next post I'll show you a few more photos from the river that great foggy morning. So nice to see you all again : )

Mallards en masse

On Saturday morning I went to the local Waste Water Treatment plant, an excellent place to watch birds. I have to say I was rather surprised by the sheer amount of Mallards located in one of the lagoons. See for yourself.

Yes, those are ALL Mallards. It almost looks like a flock of Starlings!
