Snow Plow Train

This is something completely new for me. In all my life I have never seen a Snow Plow Train, have you?

Just look at the size of this thing! It's huge! I always wondered HOW the tracks were plowed but never knew. Now I do.

This particular plow looks fairly new. What a thrill it was to see it up close!

Please pardon the dumpster in the background. It was the best I could do while trying to get a full view shot from this angle.

As you can see there was one engine in the middle and a Wedge Snow Plow on each end. Pretty cool, huh? And this is why I bring my camera with me everywhere I go, because you just never know what you're going to run into! The next day it was gone so I would have missed my chance.

Not exactly the pride of the Boston and Maine railroad but this wedge plow does the trick! It appears this is an oldie but a goodie.

Since I wondered what a Snow Plow looked like going down the track I went straight to the source: Youtube

Sure enough I found this video and many others like it. Judging by the website these guys have, I would say they love watching the Snow Plow trains too! Enjoy!

Very cool. If not for your photos, I would have no idea what was behind that cloud of snow in the video. "Snow plow train" would be just words.

Absolutely AWESOME! Would love to be there when one of these comes rip roaring down the track.... Very neat and your photos are wonderful as always!

Sharon,
I love your new blog picture of beautiful New England.
This was an enjoyable post for me as I had never seen a snow plow train either. My dad was an engineer for the UP railroad for almost 36 years. Our kids all enjoyed riding on the engine and blowing the horn. That was Massive!

Have a enjoyable day!

That is one big machine! I guess I never thought much about how they cleared the tracks! Thanks for visiting. I am not a football fan either. Know what you mean about no great deals at the grocery. I love birdcages and would have more if I had the room.
Always enjoy seeing your photos.

I have HEARD of them but never seen them! That is sooooooo cool. I have to send this to several people!

I was looking back at some of your older posts and the hair style stopped me short. I would have been livid too - and thank goodness it isn't permanent - like a tatoo! What our kids put us through, huh?

Thanks so much for the kind words on our door. A split is not my dream home but I was thrilled it at least had a pretty and colonial entry!! It really helps that I took off the storm door.

Very cool, Sharon! I've never seen one, and hope I never do because that would mean there was a lot of snow here - LOL!

I didn't know they existed either, and quite honestly, I never wondered how the tracks got plowed. Now I know!

That wild and that video was a little scary...

Good job, Sharon! Photography on the spot!

I thought for sure more of you would say you had seen a snow plow train! Especially you Steve. Good for you Nikki. Somehow I doubt it was going quite as fast as the one in the video.

Could you believe that video? It's really awesome! Must be a fun ride!

Yup Mary, I'm Johnny on the Spot!
lol! Kind of like you with those vultures. Only yours moved a little faster. Not much, but a little.

Beth, how fun for your kids! Thank you for the header compliment : )

Eve, you DO need one of those for your driveway! ha ha!

WOW! THAT is so cool! I've seen the smaller things they can fit on the front, almost like cow catchers of old, but nothing on this scale. My Sam will love watching this!

Wow, that thing is HUGE! I've never seen one before. Those pictures were very interesting to look at!

Incredible! We don't get enough snow here to need snow plows so this was fascinating to me. Thanks for posting your pics and the video.

Wow! We gathered around to see your pictures and watch the film clips. My husband was born and raised in Maine and he said.."see? That's why I live in California!" I just looked at him blankly. Is he CRAZY?? But then he looks at me like I'm crazy too when I say "Let's go back to Maine and live!" So...there ya go! :) Enjoyed every minute of it.

WOW, how cool is that?!!! My son would have LOVED that when he was small. :)

I have gotten out of the habit of bringing my camera everywhere... but you have convinced me to try harder!

I've probably said it before, but I LOVE your header, Sharon!

We live in the Great Northwest and train plows roar through our mountains all winter. This winter they couldn't keep up with the snow and the rails were closed for days. Ours are rather different - they have rotary blowers. We have so much snow they need blow the snow up and out of the way. Which you were here to take pictures of them!

Anonymous said...

No, I’ve seen rotary snow throwers before, but never have I seen one of these bad boys.

What a small world! I don't even want to think about plow trains...I'm sick of snow. I love the bird pictures and your shots of Rye harbor are great too. It's cool you got the ice on the ocean. I haven't been able to brave the cold to get out there.

Found you thru Nancy and the fatties. Never heard of a snow plow train but I live in Florida. Your blog is beautiful, the snow, the birds, all of it. I am going to back and read some of the older posts. My most favorite aunt lives in Rye just down from the beach. With your photos I can be there with her, haven't been there in awhile.

Oh I want one. I won't mention I live in Southern California, I can have one right?

Anyway I can make it adapt to my quad. No problem.

If that isn't the coolest video. Can you see my testosterone over flowing?

Thanks for the beautiful photos they are always a blessing of the promise of a new day.
