Morning light for Mosaic Monday

The colors, shades, and textures of the new day are all around us to be savored and enjoyed. No matter where you live the first morning light is inspirational.

When you arise in the morning,
think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive -
to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love."

~Marcus Aurelius

Broken, devoured clams lay out along the beach wall. Evidence that the Gulls have had a morning meal to fill their bellies.

'Seagull you fly across the horizon into the misty morning sun
Nobody asks you where you are going
Nobody knows where you're from . . .'

Heron on the green

I haven't been shooting much lately but I still try to photograph something most every day. Usually while I'm out running an errand I look around for something special to show you. Something that catches my eye. I have this horrible fear of running out of photo's to publish! Ha ha!

Today I went to apply for another job. On my way there I looked for places to stop on the way home. I love this local river and had hoped I'd see someone out wading through the water, fly fishing, but there wasn't a soul around. I scooted down towards the water just a little more to look under the bridge and this is what I saw . . .

Many of the leaves here still haven't changed. You can see the green reflecting down onto the water giving it a very interesting color. I just thought it was really something special!

When I went up onto the bridge and looked down, the water looked black. How you look at things in life can make all the difference.

So who's watching the Chilean miner rescue efforts? Oh my gosh, it's so exciting! I can't imagine if it were my husband down there. What really freaks me out is that capsule. Nothing like being wrapped like a sausage for 15 minutes . . . shudders . . .

American Mink

Have you ever seen one of these? In person? Alive???

I hadn't until this morning. And even then I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at. First I thought it was a Weasel but after doing a little research I realized it was actually an American Mink.

It's so cute! If you'd like to know a little more about them you can click here. I will tell you that they can spray like a skunk. Yikes!

They can also dive up to 16 feet deep! He left a little bubble trail every where he went.

Hanging with the Gulls

A few more pictures from our evening at the beach last week

I know Gulls are considered the rats of the ocean world but I still enjoy seeing and photographing them

My husband seemed to think he was going to sneak up on the gulls. Quite honestly they didn't seem to mind to much!

There was plenty to eat on this end of the beach so having a person nearby didn't really faze the birds too much. What you can't see is all the trash mixed in with the seaweed. Such a shame.

Carry in, carry out should be the motto of anyone who goes to the beach.

I still can't figure out what he was eating. It doesn't look like a shell I recognize. And maybe it's not a shell at all.

The poor crab, it had very recently passed on. Even the eyes were missing.
Yikes!

A lone, immature Bonaparte's Gull

Me. No, those aren't my footprints in the sand ; )

The Circle Game

Seeing this full blown orange tree last week really took me by surprise, but there are many trees on the seacoast starting to show an autumnal hue, most are a little more subtle about it though. The cold nights we're having are making for good sleeping and a pretty view.

I drive past this little pond quite often and always hope to see a Heron sitting on the dam. It appears this is a good pond to look at, but not a good pond to eat at.

Wouldn't a Heron look perfect sitting on that dock over there too? Those look like fish bubbles in the water to me!

I can't help but mourn summer just a bit, 90 degree days and all *sigh* but time marches on and all we can do is try to keep up. In the mean time I'll enjoy all the wonderful colors, sights and smells that Autumn has to offer. My friend Nancy will be visiting from Texas in a few weeks and we will definitely be having fresh apple pie!

And the seasons they go 'round and 'round

and the painted ponies go up and down

We're captive on the carousel of time

We can't return we can only look behind

From where we came

And go round and round and round

In the circle game

Pond View

As seen on a recent, clear, warm Sunday morning

While sitting there I happened to notice a pair of birds (Flycatchers?) darting back and forth across the road to pluck bugs out of the air at the pond for their young, still in the nest
