A golden glow

Some Autumns are just prettier than others

This happened to be one of those years

Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all other seasons

~ Jim Bishop

Exeter looked particularly lovely bathed in a golden glow as I strolled through town in my flip-flops on a warm afternoon.

In our own yard the leaves fell fast, furious and plentiful. Corralling them as quickly as possible is always the goal of my husband. Leaving a pile for the dogs to run through is a must, at least for a couple weeks anyway.

The oranges, the reds ... oh my! Framed by a blue sky the trees look amazing!

Autumn blazes full speed ahead. Each fleeting day a difference can be seen in color and light. The golds of the leaves can only be matched by the golds of late afternoon shadows.

May Autumn be as beautiful where you live as it is here in New England.

Though I doubt it ...  ; )

Little Compton, RI

These images were taken in late May 2011, on a trip to Rhode Island. I have to say, the area I stayed in has to be one of the pretties places I've ever seen. Little Compton personifies the true, down home, old time beauty you can still view in a New England town.

United Congregational Church is located on the commons, as well as the cemetery. Just around the corner from the church is the Art Gallery. The perfect place to stop for a cup of coffee, a snack, and some unique shopping.

The wisteria was so much larger and more prolific than I see here in NH. As were the amazing brilliantly colored azaleas. I'll have to look and see if I have any photos of those.

My goal was to arrive in Rhode Island while the sun was still up, and luckily I accomplished that goal because the next day was non-stop busy with an overcast sky. I'll always be grateful for the photos I captured when the sun illuminated the local beauty. Lately I just keep thinking about going back. Next time I'd like to go a bit more south to view some of the mansions in Newport.

I hope you enjoy the view!

Delightful yellow!

*  *  *  *  *

Ahh ... those sultry and warm first days of Spring. It was like a brief summer romance that ended all to soon, leaving us yearning for more. We bid you ado as we move forward towards April and more seasonable temperatures.

You gave us lunch outside, toes in the sand, sunburns, tops down and windows wide open. Flowers blooming, grass greening, and Bluebirds nesting. Nights without an extra blanket, mornings without slippers.

Our summertime souls were awakened.

Just a brief update on our Bluebirds. She has been laying an egg a day for the past 4 days! I'm hoping she will start incubating them by tomorrow. It's been quite cold here at night but I'm told the eggs should be okay. I hope so!

A snowy winters day

How lovely that so many of you enjoyed the photos of Phin! I really didn't expect his handsome self to be so well received. Yes Kristine, I will try to post some images of Winston sometime soon. Maybe I should just bring him over for you to see up close and personal! Ha!

I hope you all enjoy these images I shot during one of our many recent snow storms.

If you've ever been to New England then you've seen the endless granite stone walls lining fields and property lines, running along the sides of roads. I always wonder how land owners had time to build so many miles of them. It had to be a huge undertaking. Photographers, tourists, and locals everywhere are just so glad they did.

A lovely lady and a lucky shot through the railings on my back deck

So many times I've stopped at the gate to see the Buffalo at a local farm. Everytime I come up empty handed or with a photo of a dot on the horizon. For once they were actually within viewing distance but difficult to see through the heavy snow. On the left is a single Buffalo, on the right are several of them standing just behind the hill.

The one on the left kind of looks like Snuffleupagus from Sesame Street.

Skating on Mill Pond, and a birds nest

I felt so bad for the Gulls. Weather like this is stressful on the wildlife.

I love it when the snow falls. The air feels fresh, crisp, and easier to breathe. It makes everything look pure and beautiful, especially the old, dirty snow. At this point we don't have any storms in our future and I'm a-ok with that. With a 1-1/2 to 2 feet of snow on the ground I do believe we are all set for a while!

White church and a splash of color

The past couple weeks I've had the good fortune of driving by this local church, to and from work. Yesterday I finished up the job so on the way home I finally stopped to take a few pictures.

I swear, next year I'm growing Zinnia's in my garden!

I like the Bumble. He stopped by for just a second but I caught him!

I'll be linking up with Mary's Little Red House a little later on today for Mosaic Monday!
