Completed in 1935 and closed in 1984, this particular section of General Sullivan Bridge, connecting Dover, NH to Newington, NH is considered to be the second most historic bridge in the state, next to Portsmouth's Memorial Bridge.
This is the same bridge I remember going across as a kid on our way to Hampton Beach and my mom hollering at my brothers, "Just because we're on a bridge don't think I won't stop and let you out!" Man I was scared but she threatened that a lot. Oh yeah, those were the days. We made it to the beach without any stops.
For some reason I have dreams about this set of bridges but I don't know why. In my dreams I'm trying to cross the bridge but half of it is missing and I can't figure out how I'm going to get to the other side, or some of the pieces of the bridge are gone so I have to jump but I can't because I'm too scared. Who dreams about bridges? Weird.
Anyway, on this particular evening it was all good. Very serene and beautiful. Enjoy : )

Great shots Sharon! I pass that bridge often when we visit my brother-in-law who lives in Dover. Many time I've seen people fishing off there. You gotta have alot of fishing line just to reach the water!
You've got that right Jay! The night I went most of the fisherman were down by the water though, next to the bridge. It's wonderful old bridge for walkers, runners, and bikers ... and photographers.

Wow, what beautiful colors! I find it very relaxing to look at boats just floating around like that. Its very peaceful. Here in Miami we have several causeways going into Miami Beach. Well, the farthest one south has one particular bridge that, when you reach the top and start your way down you see this marina, usually with several sailboats hanging about. It always takes my breath away. However, I've never seen it with those beautiful colors that you managed to capture in your photos. I usually drive by there during the day, never at dawn or dusk.
In regards to your dream, if you were talking to a cousin of mine, she'd immediately pull out a book of dreams that she has and try to tell you the meaning...lol. Every time that I hear about someone having recurring dreams I think of her.
How beautiful and sad too, in a way, to see the weeds already beginning to reclaim that old bridge that served so many so well for so long.

I don't know if I've ever dreamed about bridges, but if I had dreams like those, I would wonder if it had something to do with my unconscious wrestling with a decision I had to make or perhaps a journey I was reluctant to take. Mysteries...

I'm sure I've been over that bridge on trips up there. A bridge like that doesn't scare me, but the Sunshine Skyway terrified me many years ago. I don't like really long bridges either over big bodies of water like in the Keys. Beautiful shots, thanks!!

In regards to the guitar story, yes, this is a true story. My BF and I both saw it on the news on TV, then we checked out the band's website. The singer ended up telling United that he was going to write three songs and make three videos in protest, after nine months of trying to get them to pay for breaking his guitar. He says in the website that the second song has been written and they're working on the video. I can't wait to see it. According to the news, United said that "the video struck a chord with them and they're talking to see what they can do about it". I think this first song is brilliant...lol

I'm thinking my mom traumatized me by saying she was going to make the boys get out on the bridge. Apparently just the thought of it at the time was enough to scare me for the rest of my life! LOL!
The bridge will be staying right where it is. There isn't any other way across the river for bikers or walkers. Since we have a penence for all things historic here in New England, this bridge is a keeper.
As for beautification, I don't think so. The state has been grapling for years about how to fund a much needed wider bridge for traffic. Currently there are traffic jams on it almost nightly because it's so narrow yet so heavily used. Where's our stimulus money anyway? ; )

I sometimes dream that I'm driving over a bridge that keeps on getting higher and higher until my car just drives off into space... and I'm REALLY afraid of heights. :)
