Late in the summer of 2008 my husband found this vandalized bird nest in the middle of a row of Burning Bush' he was cutting back. At first I thought it was a rather exciting find, but then disappointment set in when I realized the eggs had most likely been ravaged by a squirrel. The reason I believe that to be true is because of the fairly intact shells. Had the babies survived the shells most likely would be competely crushed or thrown out of the nest by the mother bird.
I think these were Chipping Sparrow eggs, though I'm not positive.
There was one other nest with nothing in it so hopefully that one was a success. These little failures break my heart, even if it is all a part of nature.
