When I was working at the beach I had to drive by this little spot every morning. On this particular day there happened to be 2 ships waiting to come into Portsmouth and dock. If the tide is low or another ship is already docked they will have to sit and wait. In this case, it was low tide.
Much of Rye beach either has houses or rock walls to block your view but there are a few exceptions and this is one. Wish it were my house blocking the view. ha haa!
The ducks seem to find this a wonderful place to languish and find a quick meal.
For a long time after 9/11 there were Coast Guard boats milling around these tankers 24/7 to be sure they were kept safe. As you can see it doesn't appear to be a big issue anymore.
This is the view looking inland on the other side of the bridge (sorry about the dumpster, it couldn't be helped).
And to our right we have . . .
PETEYS!
When Petey's opens (which they hadn't yet when I took these pictures) it's like another one of those small signs of Spring. Being that it's their first week-end open culminating with the fact we are having gorgeous weather you can best believe it will be busy!
One day I promise to take you there for lunch. It's just a small place but boy can they pack 'em in. The cars line the road and even the take out wait can be an hour or more! I guess that tells you something. Love their Seafood Chowdah!
Is it lunch time yet?

I heard about them having to wait when I went on the Isles of Shoals cruise :) Beautiful photos!
It should be lunch time after reading about wonderful chowder ...
As usual - great photos. Now I am hungry. Would love some Chowdah, but guess I will settle for a burger and go grocery shopping. Have a great weekend.

Lovely photos. Is this area close to Strawberry Bank? Will have to give Petey's a try.
OMG Sharon, I am starving now. Seeing those signs remind me how much I miss fried clams and oysters. Yum!!!
Lovely shots. The first one is spectacular!
I say we all should have some chowdah! lol! They also have a store down the street that sells their chowder year round so if Petey's itself is closed, or too busy, the store is a great place to stop by.
Dog Trot Farm, it's not too far from Strawberry Banke (about 15 minutes I'd say). Definitely worth the trip if you have the time. I imagine if you go to their website you'll find directions on how to get there. Or Mapquest it.
Order me a lobstah!
LOL!
Beautiful phots Sharon and YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!!! I would love to go with you!!!
Chowdah! You mean chowderh? LOL! We can't wait to go to Petey's with you Sharon!
Isn't Petey's the best! Mr. Hip and I love to go there. Yes, we were at Gunstock. Beautiful day. And we could hardly stand to look at how close they all were to the edge of the ice. It didn't seem to bother them at all. I love the shot of the ships from Rye. So pretty and it was such a lovely day to be at the beach.
Wow, I drove by here a couple of weeks ago and saw this sign. I'll have to give it a go since it is a place where the locals go.
I love the area from Rye Beach all the way up to Wells Beach. Definitely Petey's is on my list to visit.
Yummmmmmy!! Being over here in the mountains it seems that everyone here eats nothing but steaks and hamburgers and I'm a vegetarian so I would just love to have a Petey's here!! Does Petey deliver? LOL! MMMmmmmm..... sounds wonderful and your pictures are absolutely delightful as well!!
Take care!
Love the photos and you have officially made me very hungry for chowdah! Ha
I love those pictures! And now I'm craving some seafood "chowdah" for myself!
