Yesterday I stopped in at the local Blueberry farm to grab a couple quick shots of the once regal garden before the flowers are gone for good. Better late then never!
The Lupines have pretty much gone to seed here in the NH seacoast
In the garden was this beautiful Dragonfly, though I have no idea what kind. Can anyone ID it for me?

This was supposed to be in yesterdays post since it was taken at the base of that awesome tree, but somehow it was left out. When I was a kid we called this particular kind of moss, Red Soldiers. I could have sworn my mom told me that but she says no. Did anyone else call them Red Soldiers?
On my way home from work (or lack thereof) yesterday morning I found this huge Snapping Turtle crossing the road. Holy cow girl, you're gonna get run over!
What's another mother to do? Why jump out and help her of course!
Judging by the way she kept hissing at me I don't think she wanted my help. What's her problem anyway? I pushed her backside with my foot to try to get her off the road, then used a stick which she immediately tried to bite. She might be a turtle but her reflexes are like lightening! Yikes! Seriously, yikes!
School is almost out. The girls last day is on Friday and they couldn't be more excited! Such a bittersweet time. Next year they'll be in the high school together: Freshman and Senior. Jeesh, it seems like they just 'graduated' from Kindergarten!

It is a Widow Skimmer, Libellula luctuosa. A female at that. Keep your fingers and toes away from that snapper!!!!

You find the most interesting things to photograph, Sharon! One day we had a huge turtle like that in our court. We got a box to move him to the woods. He peed in the box, and that is the most powerful pee in the universe! They are definitely snappers! I can't believe your girls are still in school - I'm sure they can't wait to get out!
Check out the lovely hat of summer green that the turtle is wearing. How stylish!

Wow,what a creature! she looks like she's been around for many years. I would have stopped and tried to get it out of the road too even though I've seen one in the past with a nasty disposition.

I saw several turtles like that when we lived there, people used large, flat shovels to slide under and carry them across the road. Sharon, I was very surprised to see Lupines in Sedona, AZ! I thought we were way to hot for those lovely purple NH ladies.

Beautiful flowers. Sorry don't know about the moss. That turtle looks like he could do some damage! I know your girls are ready for school to end. School has been out around here since the week before Memorial Day.

I loved each and every one of those photos, Sharon. What a gorgeous dragonfly!! and that turtle! She goes so slow she has MOSS growing on her roof. hahaa
ha ha ha! While I lived in MA I had the same experience. The snapper was ginormous and when I tried to prod her along, she hissed and jumped at me. I left her in the middle of the road. Since I didn't see her squished on the way back, I assume she made the crossing :)

And are you nuts? You touched that snapping turtle? I know - you have compassion for it, but he looks pretty mean. Look at his claws - toenails, or whatever! And he bites! You certainly earned a badge for this!

I once rescued one outside the Macaroni Grill. Poor thing kept bumping into the wall in the hot sun.
So I went into the restaurant got a takeout container and scooped her up.
I put her on the freshly watered grass at the side of the restaurant.
I think she was happier there.
