What a day for the unexpected.
On my way to work this morning I took the 'back way' and through a local wildlife preserve. There's plenty of Wild Turkeys, Deer, Birds and other critters to be seen if you have the time to look. So I was looking. Tracks were everywhere.
There, over there deep in the woods, snuggled down in for a rest were the most beautiful animals . . .
This one was hidden pretty well. There were 3 Deer from what I could see, and they didn't like me pointing the camera at them or the noise it was making. But it's a miracle I ever saw them in the first place and I wasn't going to pass up this opportunity!
This one is my favorite:
I love this picture! Within moments they had had enough so they jumped up, waving their white tails the whole time, bounding out through the woods. I wasn't camera ready, so no pictures. What a treat though. On the way home I saw more Deer in the woods eating but decided I would let them be. With the weather we've been having it's going to be a rough year for wildlife. Many will not make it. Finding food will be difficult and the snow can be overwhelming. Best to let them eat when they can.
And a few miles down the road this beautiful old barn. I have a thing for barns lately and it seems like they all still have wreaths up on their doors.
Below: I took this full view shot on the way home but it was very overcast. Still an incredible old New England treasure.

Oh my gosh, Sharon! These pictures are sooo beautiful - use them for your Christmas cards next year! That is one fancy looking barn, and so gorgeous with all the snow around. LOVE the deer, and the way he is looking at you!

I do think the old barns of New England have such great character, and there are so many of them still standing. Hopefully I'll be able to capture many more to show to you : )

Living in Florida, and your photos make me long for snow. We have a "cold front" moving in tonight, with temps dropping into the high 40s, and folks here are freaking out. It's comical.
Oh gosh, that's hysterical! We aren't supposed to get over 9 degree's on Friday. I'll be wishing I could just stay home that day!

Very nice deer photos Sharon. I really love that barn. I took similar pictures of an old barn while on my trip around the point the other day! I will post one soon, no wreath tho!

Amazing pictures..the barn with the wreath is soooo New England. But your ride to work sure beats the heck out of mine...All I see is the pike!

Glad so many of you enjoyed the barn picture! Funny how I don't really think much of it as I've driven by this barn for years. Lately I'm trying to take pictures of things I take for granted being a native of New Hampshire.
Finding that deer in the woods was something I have never seen before so it was a real thrill. A moment I won't soon forget!
