No Power

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to let you know that because of the severe ice storm we experienced here in NH Thursday night into Friday, we have not had any power since around 3:00 am Friday morning. Right now my husband and I are at my friend, Kristine's house, just long enough to shower and iron his clothes for work tomorrow.

We have heard our section of town will be without power for a couple more days. I sure hope that isn't true but I tend to think it is. Luckily we have a wood stove to keep our house warm. Many others are not so fortunate. Our next door nieghbors house was 40 degrees this morning, and some are even colder than that! Brrr....

Just wanted to post a quick update. Gotta run! Thank you Kristine for the internet and the shower! After 3 days it means so much : )

I've been so worried about you, Sharon! Glad to hear you are keeping warm, and hope Phinny is doing okay (Nancy emailed me). Hope the power is on SOON!

Hi Sharon... was just watching the news on CNN about the ice up your way and wondering if you were okay. Thanks for posting this note... you and your neighbors need to huddle together and stay warm. Take care and update us when you can.

STAY WARM!

Sounds like you guys got it way worse than us. So sorry to hear you've been without electricity! Hope it comes on earlier than expected.

So sorry you got hit with that storm. We were lucky and although the towns all around us are without power...we somehow escaped without losing ours. I hope they get you back on soon!

Wow Sharon, hang in there. I just got back from Keene. I have seen a few ice storms in my day, this one is the worst! Rt2 through mass was backed up near Princeton because crews were clearing downed trees and working on the high voltage lines. Rest assured, you will have power again. My best wishes to all that are affected. The most astonishing thing was the smell of pine trees filled the air when I stopped to shoot a church. That is when I hit me just how much devastation was brought by this storm. We saw power crews heading into this area with special equipment, the likes of which I’ve never seen, to get into the back woods. Help is on the way. I’m glad you are warm.

Cuddle up and stay warm, Sharon. You are in my thoughts and I hope it won't be long before you can indulge in warm showers and steaming cups of coffee again!

Hey Girl! Glad to have helped out! It sure was not much, but glad you enjoyed the shower and the internet! Come back anytime! I have plenty of hot water and room on the couch, of course you have to share with Rheba and Harley! Take care!

Sharon,
Saw on the news about the weather up that way - hope you get power soon. Glad you had a place to go for a hot shower and comfort. I remember the ice storm in my area in early 90's. I was fortunate and kept power, but had a house full with sleeping bags & their pillows. Made lots of soup and many were thankful for a warm place to camp out for a while. This area is just not equiped for that kind of weather. Stay warm and safe.

I was thinking about you when we heard the weather reports. I'm glad that you were able to get a few creature comforts. I remember an ice storm years ago when my kids were little. My husband was stuck at work, and my mother and I and the kids were huddled in front of the fireplace, burning shelves from the cellar...

Stay safe. Hope you get the power back soon. :)

Thank you everyone for your wonderful words of support! This morning at 5:20 our power finally came back on!!!!!!

Unfortunately there are still thousands with no power, including my parents and my husband's parents. At least my parent's have a generator but my husband's don't so I imagine they will be over shortly to take showers. Maybe they'll stay for dinner too so we can try to cook up some of our many pounds of chicken that is unthawed!

What an awful experience. I did take plenty of pictures of the ice, but not so much of the devastation. Steve, I'll check your pictures next. The power guys sure are working long hard hours and we do appreciate all they do for us!!!!!

Lots to do today, including grocery shopping so I'll post the pictures I have later today or tomorrow.

Mary, burning the shelves...that's desperation! Your mom was resourceful ; )

Oh, Sharon... I feel for you and so many others without power. Luckily we were only without power for about 12 hours. Hoping everything is back to normal very soon for you and everyone else without power... Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Does this happen often? We have a big generator and tank of furnace oil to run it, just in case.

So glad you got your power. My folks still don't have theirs. It is very hard on them both. Thankfully I have had power the whole time. We would have had to go south otherwise! Actually just 20 minutes east of us was all rain. Go figure!!

I am so glad you have your electricity is back on. I was really worried about you and your family. I hope your parents do alright and they too can be comfortable.
Our newlyweds made it to Montana last night going about 30 miles an hour in a blizzard over mountain passes. When they arrived it was 51 degrees below normal!
I am so glad you had friends who could help you out.
It kind of puts the hectic part of this season in perspective...it is the charity and kindness of others for those in need.
I pray all will be alright in this ahrse weather.
God Speed Sharon!
