Lily's day!

What do you do on a warm, 60 degree, February afternoon when the sun is shining and there's not a cloud in the sky? Why go to the beach, of course! After all, that's where all the cool dogs are hanging out!

When we arrive Lily is so excited she can barely contain herself. LOL! She really loved the yellow lab, but not enough to follow him into the water. Unless it's an exceptionally warm day Lily will have nothing to do with going into the ocean. Maybe a dip of the toes but that's it.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'd be chasing a dog with those teeth!

I want to have this much fun with my friends!

I love this dog more than you could ever know. We adopted Lily as a puppy, in 2004, from a local rescue group after she had been shipped north from Virginia, a common practice in New England. A couple years ago I was so excited to finally have her breed tested with a blood sample using the Wisdom Panel *Professional test. Several weeks later my vet called and left a message saying I was never going to believe the results.

Lily's 2 main breeds are:
Rottweiler and American Eskimo

Her 2 secondary breeds are:
Afghan and German Shepard

I know, it's crazy! But as my vet said, it just goes to show, what you see on the outside of a mixed breed dog isn't necessarily what's on the inside. I can definitely see the American Eskimo in her personality (the girl can dance! and she's a big time barker), and the Afghan in her coat. She's very protective and devoted to me but I think most of those breeds have the same traits. Many people think she's part Wheaten but that breed didn't show up in the testing. Either way, no matter what, I love her like one of my own kids.

After a LOT of running it was time to go back to the car, get a drink, and head home. What a day!

check out that kong flying through the air

In a couple weeks or so I'm going to working in one of the homes on this very beach. I cannot wait! The interior painting job is extensive so I'll be there a while. Glorious I tell you, glorious.

Sharon, what a great romp that was for Lilly! She's very pretty. I would never have guessed her breeds. We have a pound rescue mixed breed. Don't know what for sure, but he is my soul mate.
It's just so unconditional. I don't know what I'm going to do without him! But I'm thinking too far ahead.
Wonderful photos by the way!

What a fun posting. Now if you were to ask me what kind of dog she is, I'd never in a bazillion years come up with that combination!

I would not have guessed Lily to have all those breeds in her genetics. She is a sweetie for sure and enjoyed the romp on the beach.
Thanks for sharing your day with us.

What a great day! Thanks for sharing all the photos! I wish I had a beach..., but this is the next best thing! I would have thought of the little fluffy dogs, to look at Lily, and certainly not rottie!!
When you are working in that house at the beach, remember to work, and not spend all your time playing at the beach!!

So funny that there is rottweiler in her. She hides it well with all that blonde hair... LOL

Few things make me smile more than seeing a happy dog running. It is sheer joy to them.

When I first moved to my current home with acres of open land, I loved watching Princess just run and run. It's sheer happiness!

Goodness, I would never have guessed those breeds in Lily!! Amazing.

I'm happy that she is loved so much...and I completely understand.

If I let my dog go on the beach he'd never come back! LOL!! He hates the water! He's supposed to be a water dog! He's a cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel & Poodle)!

Your dog looked like she had a blast! Nothing better than a happy puppy!

Have a great day!

What a fabulous day, although it looks like the weather was a bit brisk. Isn't it great to watch dogs having such a good time. No pretense, no holds barred. It was kind of strange to see the lovely beach with snow up on the banks. I love all your photos. So beautiful.

Oh Sharon, how beautiful that water looks with the light glinting off of it! She certainly looks like such a sweet dog -- she almost looks like she is smiling and happy to be having fun with her friends... :)

Lily is such a pretty dog. I would have guessed she was a Wheaten too. Looks like she had a lot of fun with the other dogs on the beach. What a great place to be able to walk and let your dogs run!

Wow, Sharon, what a wonderful day, for her and all of you. I'm kind of amazed to see snow on the beach, although I suppose I could see that phenomena here when it snows, if I drove a few miles.

I'm fascinated by this test you had done on her lineage. I wonder if that is available for cats? My sister got two "Siamese" kittens from the shelter and they are almost one now and no sign of Siamese anywhere. Although they looked it when they were small. We're certainly curious to know!

And your new project sounds exciting. It would be great to spend the days in one of those homes.

Have a wonderful week! xo – g

My daughter has convinced me that dogs smile. It's a little turning up at the far corners of their mouths that you don't see when they are just panting. The photo with the two dogs running toward you in front of the houses shows the smile on the 'toothy' dog very well! And Lily is smiling right behind him!

Great post. Super photographs. What a fun romp!

Don't work too hard, but then again, work is a good thing!
