Smoke and the water

Did you have a good Memorial Day? Do something nice? Honor those who have served our country?

For years I enjoyed watching the local Memorial Day parade and ceremony to honor Veterans, but for the third year in a row I've spent the day at New Castle Commons with some girlfriends and their families. As much as I enjoy being there it leaves me with a sense that I'm missing something.

Since I was at New Castle I figured I should share the view with my readers. If you didn't already know there are big fires up in Canada. So big in fact that the smoke is traveling right down through the New England states. This morning (Monday)we woke up to the distinct smell of a campfire and a heavy haze in the air here along the coast of New Hampshire. When you look at these photos the smoke is what you're seeing.

I enjoyed watching all the Terns diving into the water. Plenty of Cormorants seemed to be lingering about as well. The fish must have been plentiful just below the surface.

Woody and Buzz fly over head.

What would a day by the shore be without a kite?

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Sharon,

Looks like you had a nice day.

The smoke from the fires in Quebec seemed to be everywhere today. I was surprised that it made its way down to the NH coast and Boston. We had quite a bit of smoke in northern Vermont, but it eventually cleared out.

Hot and humid here in Maryland. Very sunny, too. Spent the day keeping cool. And it's still warm out there.

Wow, that's crazy that the smoke has traveled all that way! The scenery is still beautiful though! ♥

Boy, I love these photos, but don't like that it is smoke either...many times here in the U.P., we also can smell smoke across Lake Superior if Ontario is having fires.
Adore the kite photo!

What a perfectly beautiful day and photos...well, except that last one. :)

OMG! I just thought it was summer haze! I woke up this morning at 5:00 and everything was clear. When I actually got up a few hours later, it so hazy I couldn't see the breakwater and Tenpound was obscured!

I was wondering about that haze today, and the funny smell!! I was thinking..., there must be a fire somewhere, but in Canada, wow.

Sailboats are very soothing to me. Nice pics!

Hope the Canadians can get the fire under control. Amazing how far smoke travels in the air. TONS of rain here off and on all week-end, heavy rain showers and loud snaps of thunder. We could smell the lightning strikes. Kind of scary.

It rained here on and off all day long. But, we met up at my parents house and had a cookout. My mom makes some awesome dogs and slaw. :c) Looks like you had a lovely day as well.

We had a lovely week end in Maine, except for the acrid smell of smoke and the haze from Quebec. Air quality alarms went off in Portland. Your photos captured that very well. Nice blog!

Sharon, beautiful photos in spite of the smokey haze. How devestating the fires must be to the poor people and animals who are experiencing it first hand. My heart breaks for all those affected... Donna

Oh my goodness....It's all making sense now! I thought I was seeing fog, but that confused me. I bet it was smoke. UNREAL.

We worked on our gardens, are too much, and went to the beach for a few hours. Nice-long-weekend of accomplishments that I enjoy doing.

I don't watch the news on tv, listen to it on the radio, or read the newspaper. I've gotta come here to find out there are really bad wildfires in my own country. *rueful grin*

Someone call me, if we go to war, K?

On second thought, leave me to my blissful ignorance. *smile*

Looks like you spent a fabulous day at the shore!

P.S. Sorry about the smoke.

We used to have a parade in our little town every year, but they have changed it to every other year -- we switch off with another town in our township... But I feel as though I'm missing something, too.

The photos are beautiful, Sharon. It must be disconcerting, though, to smell the smoke and see the haze...

Hope you had a lovely weekend. :)

Those must be some awful fires since there is so much haze (smoke) in the photos.

Wonderful variety of views even with the smoke haze! Especially love the action photo of all the water birds!

Yes, the fires are very sad. I hate to see so much go up in smoke.

The Atlantic is always beautiful, even in the haze!

Lovely photos, I hope you got to go sailing. I submitted a photo of a lighthouse on the pacific coast. Looks like your lighthouse was getting a new coat of paint. Mine just got its new paint recently. Thanks for sharing your wonderful weekend.

I've read on many blogs about the fires in Canada, hope they are under control soon. Nice to see the lovely views and dream about being there looking at the lighthouse.

P.S. Thank you for your sweet words Sharon about my Loons. You are so right!!

So sad about those fires. I couldn't believe how strong the smell was around Boston. It looked like the haze on a humid day but yesterday wasn't humid. But today was, yuck!
I hate the humidity.

Great photos by the way.

I love the birds right above the water! And the kite flying high? Priceless!

I didn't hear about the fires in Canada, but they must be huge if you could smell the smoke by you!

The smoke from those same fires made it all the way to Ottawa on Monday, too! Good thing a wind came up and blew it away. It bothered me, and I don't have breathing problems! I am also hoping there has been enough rain to put out those fires!
