A Bird and Blooms

I’ve been taking some time off from blogging. Much needed time off. Every now and then it just feels like the right thing to do. Down time usually brings about a new spark of creativity. Usually. We’ll see what how it goes ; )

table top display

I wanted to show you the bird cage I bought at Marshalls. I’m still debating on painting it a natural, creamy white. What do you think? The problem is going to be the birds nest. Taking it out of the cage and trying to put it back in, without destroying it, could present a real challenge!

I also wanted to show you the gorgeous orange roses my husband bought me last week-end. He knows just how uninspired I’ve been feeling lately so he was trying to bring me around. Aren’t they amazing? The Home Sweet Home sign was hanging down by the front door and it seemed to match perfectly with the flowers.

The Daisy flower detail on the door is sweet

The blanket was my husbands baby blanket. It looks rather sloppy just lying there but I was trying to go with a casual, cottage chic look. I’m afraid it looks more like a cottage mess. lol!

The little bird? Again, Marshalls. The nest, au natural.

Tonight I think my roses have just about reached the end of the road . . .

dying roses

But for some reason I haven’t had the heart to throw them away.

Thank you all for stopping by. I know you have better things to do (and who doesn’t!) but I very much appreciate it.

The birdcage looks nice in black, but I think the nest would show off a bit more if the cage were white.

As for the flowers... once they dry a bit I cut them free of the stems, nestle them all closely in a small pretty clear glass bowl and keep them for months and months.. Just don' like to throw sweet memories away.

The vignette is so pretty! I personally would leave the birdcage black - love it!! I recently bought a black one @ HL and have not decided where to put it just yet as I am trying to change a few things around here. Those roses are beautiful! Is it to late to hang them upside down to dry?

I can really understand your hesitation at throwing away those beautiful roses. How sweet of him to get them for you in an effort to cheer you up. Makes them even more beautiful.
I can't help you with the bird cage.

Oh I think those roses are lovely in any stage!! I have dried ones all around the house and they stay put till they get too dusty!

Such a lovely vignette!

I like the contrast of the black birdcage against your off-white walls. Either way it will be pretty. The roses are gorgeous! What a thoughtful husband! He's a keeper.

Happy Friday,
Karen

Very enjoyable post.....I like your birdcage just as it is.
And I don't blame you for not wanting to get rid of your lovely roses.

Gorgeous! You could be an interior decorator!

OK...here's a guy's opinion:
I'm no interior decorator and when my wife asks if something matches I cringe because if I agree with her she says I'm lying just to agree with her! Or if I disagree with her opinion she gets mad at me! I never win! But if it were me I'd leave it black for the contrast as KarenB and JO said. So please Sharon and KarenB and JO....don't get mad at me!!!

Leave the bird cage as is! It's beautiful! Love your roses, even in their wilted state.

I'm agreeing with everyone who says leave the birdcage black! Love those gorgeous roses - your hubby is a sweetie!

What a great find! I like it as is, but if you don't like it all black, you could "antique" the outside with a contrasting color and not have to worry about moving the nest.

What a beautiful vignette! Roses are luscious. My hubby brought me roses for no reason yesterday too! Haven't had time to take pics but I better do it before they start looking like your last pic. I'm with the others who say leave the birdcage black. It's stunning!

I, too, struggle with finding the inspiration to keep blogging some days. I was reading through a transcript last night of a Q&A that Pioneer Woman did and copied down her answer to the problem. She said, "The only advice I can give is just to keep going...keep blogging. Push through. Take a photo of your pantry and blog about your cans with long past expiration dates. Blog about your closet. Everyone's life is interesting... you just have to find the angle and rip off your filters a little bit."

Your photographs are always beautiful and interesting - and we'll all keep coming by to look at them.

What beautiful roses!

I like the bird cage in black but I do agree with another of your readers who said that white would show off the nest better. Have a beautiful day :)

What a lovely vignette, Sharon! Love the birdcage! I hope you have been enjoying your time away from blogging -- we all need that once in a while...

Have a terrific weekend!

I think it's all lovely. Orange and yellow roses are my favorites. I used to have a rose bush that produced the most beautiful coral colored roses. I miss it.

What a guy, a real keeper!! Love the blanket.

I too like the contrast of the black cage - don't paint it white! Actually, to be honest I think the 'white' thing is getting kinda tired . . . .

Marshalls can be a little gold mine full of treasures to discover. Fabulous roses, the color adds a nice fresh burst of light.

Your vignette is gorgeous! I love how you've mixed old and new! I have to tell you how envious I am of your roses, how gorgeous are they?! Your husband must be very sweet to have given them to you JUST when you needed them. Orange, pink and yellow and the blends of those 3 are my favorite roses!

I'm sheepishly typing this. I think you should paint the bird cage white. Everyone else says black. :) If I remember right, you have a lot of white in your house. I'm a Libra, we go for balance. But - I'm no interior decorator!

You seem to have a natural knack at decorating and I would go with your gut feelings. If you would have shown us the bird cage in white, we would have all said, "How Lovely!"

Your roses are lovely! I bought a birdcage at Marshalls and it was white, it is very similar to yours. We have a TJMaxx distribution center close to the Marshalls and the TJMaxx. They along with Home Goods are owned by the same company. I love those stores. You never know what you will find there.

Those roses are of such beautiful color. I can understand why you don't have the heart to throw them away.

Your welcome floral sign has black in it, for me I like the cage black. And with the blanket and vase white I feel it has balance as well as draws your eye to each item. Now Cindy on the other hand would be grabbing her spray can and white it would be! :) Your web site is really nice! I went to the only Marshalls we have and it was junkie and there was not the nice stuff each web site I enjoy visiting has. I wish we had a nice Marshall's, I would have fun shopping. Thanks
