String Bridge views on a Winters day

About the time I took these photos I was supposed to be at a doctors appointment. Needless to say I forgot. Oops!

String Bridge is located in the heart of Exeter. It's just a small, old bridge built in 1935 and the view is pure and simple small town New Hampshire.

(looking up river towards the dam)

Settled in 1638 Exeter became a busy mill town. Though most of the mills have since disappeared, many of the colonial homes remain.

(below photos are looking down river)

Some prefer an afternoon dip ....

others would rather go with a nap

The sign below provides a little more information about the historic gold building that resides in the middle of String bridge.

Sharon,
I just love your winter landscapes. The snow is so beautiful and the shot of the colorful buildings with the icicles is just wonderful. Makes me wish I was there.

Spectacular photos, Sharon. Now, if snow could just be warm, I'd live there in a heartbeat!

They are all beautiful - especially the 2nd one down from the top. We have enjoyed milder temps the last week, but they start dropping next week. Nice while they lasted.

Absolutely wonderful captures Sharon from the tops of the beautiful blue skys and clouds to the beautiful snow covered ground and water and all the wonderful things in-between! Let's see, the doctor? takin' pictures? the doctor? takin' pictures?. No tough choice there and we get to see the pictures :)

I loved the first one with the tiny pop of red from the building in it..but gosh these were all stunning!

I love winter scenes with open water..
and that one of the little shops and tiny shoveled sidewalk was wonderful too.
GORGEOUS job!

sharon,

i have never been to new england in my life, but your pics and your writings about the history behind the structures and towns is so very interesting. i almost think your writings are more interesting than your beautiful pics.

i was a history major in college, but changed it somewhere along the line.

anyways...the historical perspective is much appreciated.

have a beautiful w/e.

ps.....i think your are starting to inspire me to do the same around central illinois. i could do a lot with all the abraham lincoln things sooooooo very nearby. hmmmmmmmmm....:)

Stunning wintery photos. Brilliant!
In the UK, about 30-40mins in car from where I live in the South West, we also have a town called 'Exeter'.
A lovely place to shop now, with lovely characteristics by the river.
Kind Regards

I miss seeing all that snow. The bushes along the bank all loaded down with snow look like they're growing out of the water....beautiful!
Dealing with a little cold is so worth living in NE!!!

Sharon your photographs are simply amazing! I am in awe of the talent you possess. The yellow colonial is it a private home or shop?

Thank you all for your encouraging comments!

Julie, it does look like the kind of building that should have shops but actually it's just offices. I keep wondering how much longer the building will remain standing considering its age and some of the floods that have raged through that river! So far, so good!

I have to tell you, last Monday downtown Exeter really was just as pretty as it looks in the photos. The snow has held on pretty well but rain is going to get us on Monday : (

Sharon,
Beautiful photographs. I have been in Exeter many times over the years, I have family there. Your pictures truly capture the feeling of the town.

I will be following your blog. Even though I am in Florida, I do get homesick for a New England winter sometimes.

This looks like a winter wonderland Sharon, especially your header. As must as I like the beautiful pictures it would be much to cold for me to actually be there in those temperatures. :)

I certainly would rather be where these photos were taken than at the doctor's office! I hope they were forgiving!

These photos are absolutely stunning. I like the photo looking up at the dam as the water flows down the two ledges. All your photos are so gorgeous.

I spent several years in Harrisville. The String stream gave me a deje vu from that part of my childhood. Lovely photos.

Sharon,
I so thrilled I found your site. I'm a Midwestern girl. My heart and soul belong to New England. I love everything New England: the land, the history, the weather, the antiques and the people.

Your photos are spectacular! Makes me feel I'm right there standing in all that beauty.

Thanks for sharing!

What a nice tour of Exeter. Love the photos. Hope you didn't get charged for a "no show" at your doc's. I especially like the gold colored house with the shoveled path. Nice.

Oh my Sharon! You really have a wonderful talent for architectural photography! My very favorite is the yellow home with the wreath sitting right in the icy waters!! Wow!

So beautiful...and cold looking!

I've always marveled at birds' ability to be out in that kind of weather and not have their spindly little legs just snap off from the cold.

Hi there, its me again! I love these winter photos that you're posting. I am so bummed that I don't get to see anything like that here in Florida. But at least I get to see your beautiful photos. I've been sick with the flu lately, but I'm glad to be feeling better again and back to reading my favorite blogs, like yours. I also created a new blog for myself, hopefully this one will stick. Its geared towards my crafts, which is my haven in hard times. Hope you take a visit and enjoy it. Keep posting more photos, I'm loving them.

These images remind me of the many wonderful trips my husband and I used to take through New Hampshire (we live in New Brunswick, CAN). It was one of our regular vacation spots.
