I've wanted to photograph this little outbuilding for a long time now. Finally we had a morning that seemed just right. Freshly fallen snow was on the ground and the sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon as I climbed over a snow bank, filling my shoes with snow, and took a few shots.
This is somewhat how I saw the scene in my mind. When I arrived home and looked at the originals it wasn't as pretty. Really, it wasn't.

Not very exciting is it. To dark, to much blue, no definition of the outbuilding. Just blah!
So I pulled it into Photoshop where I cropped and straightened it, used the Unsharpen Mask tool (Amount 28, Radius 250, Threshold 4) and then added a couple generic light colored textures (found on Flickr) to expose the building and tree a bit more, not to mention get rid of the blue color and highlight the snow. After the layers are flattened I lighten the photo just a little more.
Yes, it's a bit of work, but to me, in the end it's all worth it. I hope you like it too!

I try to just snap and post with my photos too but yes, quite often what your mind's eye sees is very different from what your camera will record. Still. it's a pretty shot and I really like the dusky blue tones in the original?
It's always a challenge when our camera doesn't register what we see. But I love how you edited this image. The composition is really nice, and I can see why you were drawn to this little building.
Wow! Someday I hope to know how to do all those things. Right now I can only crop and lighten pictures. I have a lot to learn.

It can be very hard to capture what we see.
It is beautiful what you did with your picture. I am still learning photoshop elements but I am really too impatient to learn it properly.Maybe one day...

Very nice...love the photo, especially your touched up version. I too have many photos that I 'tweak' to be more of how I'd love it to look, rather than what the photo captures. I use a couple programs, but one favorite is Lightroom by Adobe. You can try a free 30 day trial online...I love it! Come visit my blog to see some of my photos if you'd like. I keep looking at both of them, and I like them both. The one with the blue looks more like it would have been taken in the early evening hours.

You are right; the original is really blah! But once you had cleaned it up, it looks wonderful! So your work was worth it!
They are both beautiful but the first one is almost ethereal. Snow does tend to pull blue in photographs and you made it crisp and white, and the sky just glows so wonderfully. Nice job!

Loved the peach color of the sky in the first (edited) one....it doesn't matter that you edited it, that takes talent.....just like when a painter decides what colors to use in his/her art piece...or what strokes to use...it is all art!

Thank goodness for Photoshop!! See how wonderful this turned out with just a bit of effort. I love it Sharon. I could easily stay in a place like this in the middle of nowhere.

It is beautiful. I don't seem to have the time to tweak my photos like that. Perhaps, it's because I'm not the proficient with PS yet.

Hi, great editing. The photo turned out beautiful. I haven't had the courage to tackle Photoshop yet. It sounds so complicated. Maybe if I take a class it won't seem so intimidating. Good job.

They are both great photos, snow is always likely to turn out blue if there is sunlight present. What you did in PS7 makes for a great final image, thanks for sharing:)
