Yesterday Brent and I took the day all to ourselves. With life's hectic schedule constantly controlling our days, it was nice to take a much needed break!
The first town we stopped in was Wolfeboro, NH. The Oldest Resort Town In America ... or so they claim. It's a very touristy area with plenty of small quaint shops to spend your money in.
I thought this building was adorable! It's called the Wolfeboro Station yet there are no train tracks in sight, so I'm not sure if the tracks were ripped up years ago, or what.
I am assuming this is the old spelling of the town. You can view the full front of the building HERE, though it's not my picture.
Something we noticed all over town ... Pumpkin People! I only took pictures of a few. This particular display was my favorite : )
Right after we parked I ran down to the dock in hopes of getting a good picture of the Mount Washington boat as it pulled away. For a big boat it sure is quick! If we had been a little earlier we could have taken a ride, but we didn't plan anything, which was nice.
Here I am sitting on the dock after we finished eating Pumpkin Muffins from Dunkin Donuts. Mmmmm, good! They had benches to sit on but the wood felt nice and warm. The temps were in the 60's and the sun felt warm, so it was a perfect day.
These Viking Pumpkin People were located in the park overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. Who ever made them did a really nice job!
Love the colanders on their heads!
You just have to love her eyelashes ... and funnel cones! LOL!
No pumpkins here but they were still cute.
I have to confess, I wasn't feeling like taking pictures as I mostly just wanted to relax and enjoy the day, so what pictures I did get for scenery aren't that great. There were certainly prettier scenes than this!
Like this ...
Covered Bridge No. 45 ... that's what the sign said that led us to Durgin, Bridge in Sandwich, NH.
Freshets: A sudden overflow of a stream resulting from a heavy rain or a thaw.
We had hoped to have a Sandwich in Sandwich but all we could find were back roads. No restaurant here!
Can you imagine this bridge just after a snow storm? It must be gorgeous! There was a dilapidated old house adjacent to the bridge. At least they have a gorgeous view.
Looking down river through a small opening between the slats of the bridge.
There was a larger opening looking North.
More scenery as we headed towards Tamworth, NH
After many years of driving past The Yankee Smokehouse restaurant in West Ossipee, NH, we finally stopped in for lunch. It did NOT disappoint!
Brent had a Pulled Pork sandwich with BBQ Beans, while I ordered a Pulled Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. The food and service were excellent!
The decor is basic, but we've driven by on a week-end and seen a long line outside. I guess the food speaks for itself.
And the prettiest shot of the day ... Madbury Reservoir overlooking the dam.
Wish you could be here to enjoy some of the sights and smells of New England with me!

Sharon such lovely photos and it looks like you both had a great time!
I want a day like that with my husband! You lucky girl!
I loved hearing about that cute town and I loved seeing the covered bridge. I'm completely in love with covered bridges. As a west coast girl, covered bridges are what you think of when you think of New England and I get such a thrill when I see one.
Great pictures! Oh, and I love your sweater! :-)
Sharon--I am in love with Lake Winnepesaukee. I used to work during the summers in college in Meredith at a summer theater, and I spent my days off (which were few and far between) on the lake, on the Mt. Washington, in Wolfeborough, etc. This was a nice, nostalgic post for me!)
One photograph is nicer than the next so I cannot say which one I like most, they are all very lovely. I am glad the two of you had a day to spend together. It is so important to take time out for ourselves sometimes. Thanks for sharing!!
It's wrong to turn pumpkins into people - LOL! Love the fall tree pics and covered bridges are so beautiful and there is something romantic about them! Do you have a new do? Cute!
Gee for not being in the mood to take pictures...you sure captured some beautiful shots!!! I love the old covered bridges here in New England. And the colors are just starting to get pretty. Glad you had such a great day! And thanks for bringing us along.
Wow, I love your blog! I grew up in New England and have lived in Texas for almost 20 years now. I LOVED all your photos, how beautiful! Our family vacationed in Maine this summer and made a stop at the Yankee Smokehouse too! Yum! Thanks for sharing.
Desiree
Hi Ladies!
Sorry to take so long to reply. It's been terribly busy here! Thank you all for commenting and I'm glad you liked the photos.
Debbi - We had a wonderful time and I've thought about it ever since!
Alyson - You and your husband should take that day as I'm sure you both need it! As for my sweater, I bought it for my daughter at Forever 21 last Christmas. I think she wore it once. I just scoffed it up the other day ; )
Tutta - That's incredible! Summers on the lake ... something most of us only dream about! Tomorrow we're going to Mt. Major!
saphotographs - It's no Africa, but it sure was pretty : )
Laura - Who doesn't love the covered bridges?! They are so unique. Yes, the doo is a bit different. Growing my hair out is agony!!! I should write a post!
Nikki - So nice to hear from you! I'm sure the foliage is starting to turn where you live too!
Desiree - No blog? How funny you stopped at the Smokehouse also! I can't stop thinking about pulled chicken ... lol! I hear most NE'ers hate Texas. You must be a rare bird ; )
How beautiful the colors, the photos, the pumpkins, looks so wonderful,,,hugs, lisa
Hi Sharon...first time at your blog. I realy enjoyed seeing your beautiful pictures of New England. I miss living up North with the wonderful seasons. It's still hovering around 80 down here in Atlanta. I think it's wonderful that no matter where you live in the country by sharing blogs we get to experiance life everywhere. Thank you for the visual treat!
Sue...
Hi Sharon, "Freshet" is a pretty cool word, thanks for the definition. I've lived in New England for 3/4th of my life and never heard that word before.
Steve,
Freshet IS a cool word, isn't it! I have to confess, I had to look the definition up, while my husband figured it's meaning out fairly quickly.
Sue,
Quite frankly, I miss the 80 degree days. How I wish we could go right back to Summer once Fall is over. lol!
Lisa,
Thank you for stopping by! I need to do some blog cruising of my own but it's been one hectic day after another lately.
I know I am super late on commenting here, but I have to say after these pics: Sharon, you are a gorgeous woman! You are so photogenic. Lucky gal! :0)
